Welcome!  This site is specifically for Mrs. Pearce's 9th grade English I class at Bentonville High School, but there are resources that may be helpful for many students.  My students will be able to access calendars, assignments, study guides, and miscellaneous information regarding our class.

 Class Description

Teacher: Mrs. Vicki Pearce
School: Bentonville High School

Class: English I
Description: English I is a composite study of literature, writing, and grammar designed to equip the freshman student with life skills for the academic business world and the personal enjoyment of life-long learning.  A variety of literature genres focuses on short stories, novels, drama, and poetry.  Writing includes a research project, autobiography, and essays incorporating the Six Traits philosophy.  Grammar and punctuation studies, as well as reading and writing, are directed by the Arkansas State Frameworks guidelines and ACT test readiness skills.  In addition to novel studies, students will be encouraged to read novels of their choice.

ONLINE TEXTBOOK

Within the first few weeks of school, each student will receive a username and password for online text books.  We use the Holt, Reinhart, Winston Elements of Literature and Elements of Language series.  While you will not receive an individual book to take home with you, you can access the entire textbook on line by following the link provided on the right and typing in your username and password.  I STRONGLY recommend you use the online textbook as often as possible.  If you do not have internet access at home, use the computers in any of the school's computer labs.  There are resources in the online textbook that will help you better understand what we read in class and will allow you to review the stories at your own pace.  The online textbook will be invaluable as a resource as you study for semester exams as well.

ABSENCES/MAKE-UP WORK

When you are absent, you MUST turn in an excuse note from your parents and turn it into the office.  If the absence is excused, you will have one week to make up the work you missed.  IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET AND COMPLETE MAKEUP WORK.   The missing assignments will be posted on this website as well as in a make up folder in the classroom.

TARDIES

Please understand that every minute counts!  We begin class at the bell, so tardies will be counted in my classroom!!!  If you are tardy, you must go to the office and receive a tardy slip.  You will then sign into my classroom on the Tardy Sign In sheet with your name and the date that you were tardy.

Please contact me at vpearce@bentonville.k12.ar.us with any questions.
