7th Grade Pre AP Language Arts is a daily class that focuses on stretching each student’s already advanced reading and writing skills even more.  Students will be required to read a variety of texts:  modern fiction, classic fiction, non-fiction, short stories, poetry, periodicals, etc. They will also write five major essays that include a narrative essay, persuasive essay, literary analysis essays, and comparison/contrast essay. Students will move through the writing process with instruction on expanded essay structure, and they will be introduced to the MLA format for documentation. Students will read more advanced novels which come from the suggested AP Reading List, in preparation for the future AP exam. Class discussion will include higher level inference skills, and students will regularly participate in Socratic circles, literature circles, and text annotation. Students in this course will also mentor a kindergarten student at Apple Glen Elementary each quarter as well as participate in community service projects each semester.
