Classes:

Art History: Art History is a semester course that emphasizes understanding works of art within their historical context by examining issues such as politics, religion, patronage, gender, function, and ethnicity. The course also explores the visual analysis of works of art. The primary aim of this course is to encourage the understanding of art as a visual language and to foster in students the ability to translate this understanding into verbal expression, both orally and written.

Computer Graphics I:  is a full year course that begins by exploring the nature of 2-dimentional design with an emphasis on the elements and principles of art.  The program will also explore the fundamentals of advertising layout, typography, photo editing, illustration and basic animation.  In this class students will learn and utilize the computer along with various software programs as a design tool.  Students will analyze and critique artwork, discuss aesthetic issues, and understand the evolution of letter forms and origins of graphic design in the history of art.

Each student will need to have one 4GB flash drive for this course.

Art III: This is a full year course where students will extensively communicate their feelings through a variety of media, processes, techniques and tools.  Students will be expected to select a theme and carry it throughout half of the required pieces. Students will be engaged in research, demonstrations, class critques and individual art production.  Upon completion of this course, students will have created a portfolio containing 8-10 art pieces.

There will be a $15.00 materials fee for taking this course.

Advanced Placement Art Studio: This is a full year, college-level course designed for the students who are seriously interested in the practical experience of art.  Students build and submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year.  This course will address a sense of quality in the student's work, the student's concentration on a particular visual interest or problem, and the student's need for breadth of experience in the formal, technical, and expressive means of the artist.  Students must complete requirements for submitting the AP portfolio.

There is a $15.00 materials fee for taking this course.
