 French I, IA and IB

Description:

French IA is the first part of a two-year French 1 course.  This class has been designed to help students develop a better understanding of the concepts introduced in French 1, which will create a stronger foundation for futhering their study of the French language. Concepts that are introduced during this course include: vocabulary (school supplies, sports, family members, etc.), grammatical structures, verb conjugation, and cultural material.  This course covers chapters 1 - 4 of Bien dit!.

French IB is the second part of the two-year French 1 course.  This course is a continuation of French 1A, and the more gradual pace allows students to attain deeper comprehension of the material that would have otherwise been taught within one year. Concepts that are introduced include past tense verb formation and vocabulary (clothing, shopping, food, etc.).  This course covers chapters 5-8 of Bien dit!.

French I is a full year course. In French I, students will study topics related to school, family, friends, leisure, shopping and vacations. Students will engage in speaking, writing, listening comprehension, and collaborative learning activities in the target language. They will be expected to communicate in French, connect to other bodies of knowledge and contrast their own culture with the target language culture. The program, including textbook, workbook, video, CD and CD-ROM, will guide students through structured practice, from the comprehensible input of authentic language, to creative, personalized expression.
