 Pre-Algebra and Algebra I

Teacher: Mrs. Deborah Jefferson
School: Lincoln Junior High School

E-MAIL:  djefferson@bentonville.k12.ar.us

Algebra I Course Description:  This is an intense mastery mathematics course.  The class objective is to show proficient knowledge in Algebra with the following math skills:  number operations, data analysis and probability, measurement, and Algebra.  There is an intense focus on equations, equations of lines, and quadratic equations.    We will explore A;gebra by using labs, lecture and discussion, homework and tests.  After instruction, I will always try to give students  time to work in class.  This will allow students to ask questions and smooth out problem areas.  Homework is the student’s responsibility, and students are encouraged to seek assistance and ask questions if needed.  Homework is a practice time for students to work independently to make sure they understand a concept.  Therefore, homework cannot be answers only.  Remember, in mastery, students have all the answers to the assignments.  Work must be shown on all problems to receive full credit. Please review the criteria for credit.Students should check their homework as it is completed and be prepared to ask questions about problems they did not understand.  Homework from the previous class will be graded and collected at the beginning of class.  Late homework will not be accepted for full credit after this time.  Always keep in mind that on a block schedule, we will be covering twice as much material in one period.  Algebra students are required to maintain a minimum grade 80% or better at the end of each quarter to remain eligible for the class.  Students who do not meet the grade minimum will be dropped back to regular pre-algebra.  In April, students will take the Arkansas End-of-Course Algebra test.  Students who are not proficient on the state test will take required remediation.
