Class Description: Language Arts for eighth graders and Language Arts for eighth graders in pre advanced placement. 

  The regular English class is based on the study or reading, writing, grammar, speaking, and research skills. Students are given opportunities for self-selected reading material plus required short stories and novels for all eighth graders in our district.  Lessons will focus on grammar skills to enhance the student's ability to craft a story or poem.  Skills will be enhanced with all genres of writing such as technical writing, narrative writing, expository and persuasive writing.  Speaking and listening skills will be addressed in the classroom setting as students present material to the class or listen to others in the classroom.

  The advanced placement of eighth grade English is a combination of enrichment in writing skills, grammar basics and beyond, and reading development in different genres.  Our expectations are high for basic skills to mature in better writing and increased reading comprehension of fiction and nonfiction. 

   In the writing arena, all students are required to edit their own rough drafts of every paper, share their writing with a parent for editing and signature on the paper.  Then that paper is returned to class for peer editing the next class session.
