Course Title: English

Students will articulate ideas, synthesize works, study vocabulary, and move through the steps of the writing process via various formats including: short reflections, journal entries, and poetry. Students will further develop reading fluency with a continued emphasis on reading strategies. In this all-inclusive full-year daily language arts class, the connection between reading and writing will be accentuated as we move our students toward “reading like writers and writing like readers.”

In addition to mastering the regular ELA 7th grade curriculum, Pre-AP students also will begin to grapple with the terminology vital to literary analysis Students are required to handle additional reading and project assignments.  Key Points to Remember

Body

We will finish reading/discussing The House on Mango Street (HOMS) this Monday, 5/7.  The multiple choice portion of the HOMS test will be Tuesday.  Even though you already have a plethora of study materials for the novel, I've compiled an additional one (and attached it with the announcement of the test on the calendar).  SEE CALENDAR for Mon./Tues.  Thoroughly completing the Study Guide is not only a requirement, but it will (tremendously) help you prepare for the test!

Your well-developed, 5-paragraph essay (subject, "How to Survive 7th grade") is due tomorrow/Friday, 5/4/2012.  These should be developed, based on the extensive outline you did earlier in the week.  Final essays are double-spaced, written in black or blue ink (or typed in Times New Roman or Arial, 12 pt. font).

Your HOMS Char. Analysis, "Edna's Ruthie" packet is due tomorrow (Friday).  Also, your reading assignment: pages 88-102 (by Friday)/end of book by Monday.  Be prepared to discuss/present each vignette.
