Journalism
In this full year course, students will begin introductory studies in media ethics, American media history, reporting, newspaper-oriented writing, advertisements, and basic newspaper design. Students will work on a variety of tasks, including but not limited to taking notes, interviewing, discussing issues, conducting research, writing stories on deadline, and designing pages and ads. During the year, students will write extensively, design pages, and produce a student newspaper and or journalistic style writing. The goal is develop a school publication.
Yearbook I Working on the yearbook staff includes drawing layouts, taking and cropping pictures, writing captions, headlines, and body text. Students will also learn how to use the Jostens online yearbook website. Students are required to type and fit their pages onto the computer and prepare them to be sent off camera- ready. Because this is beginning yearbook, students will mainly learn the basics of what is involved in creating a yearbook. This includes writing and developing yearbook and news stories.
Yearbook II, III, IV

This includes writing and developing yearbook and news stories. Students will continue learning about theme development, copy, layouts, terms, editing, proofing and photography. There is a Jostens workshop in the fall and the Arkansas State Press Association competition in the spring. Students will also help with year book distribution in May as well as complete the supplement pages in the spring.
